The Roman ruins of S. Cucufate

I have been travelling across the Alentejo for 20 years now and I had never heard about the stunning ruins of Sao Cucufate (Vidigueira). So, it was quite a surprise! The villa as we know it was established in the 3d-4th century PCN. It was later occupied by monks who painted the frescoes.

A few kilometers away from the ruins, in the town of Vila de Frades there is a little museum - o Museu da Casa do Arco - devoted to the objects found in the ruins.
